There are certain issues for which politicians will fight tooth and nail, and are the reason why they entered into public service in the first place. For me, access to high-quality public education always has been one of those issues. As a kid growing up in a working class home, high-quality public schools with caring teachers helped make me the person I am today.

Washington, D.C - U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) released the following statement after Governor Scott Walker signed a measure into law, which would eliminate safe abortion services after 20 weeks of pregnancy:

"The 20 week abortion ban signed by Governor Walker today is an attack on women's reproductive health. Women should have the right to make decisions about their own healthcare. Any attempt to restrict access to care puts women's health and safety in jeopardy.

Washington, D.C - U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court announced its decision in King v. Burwell to uphold a key part of the Affordable Care Act:

"The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land," said Rep. Mark Pocan. "Now, Governor Walker must expand Medicaid coverage for Wisconsinites across the state. This would solve his budget problems and save our state $345 million over the next 2 years – ensuring Wisconsin children and families receive the care they need."

Washington, D.C - Yesterday, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (WI-05) made public a letter from U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman in which Ambassador Froman eased Republicans' concerns that efforts to combat global climate change would not be included in the TPP. This runs counter to previous statements made by the USTR to Congressional Democrats and environmental groups. Rep. Pocan is calling on USTR Froman to clarify whether the agreement includes provision requiring certain standards.
