WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Mark Pocan (WI-02), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) reintroduced the “Save Medicare Act.” This bill renames so-called “Medicare Advantage” plans, prohibits private insurers from using “Medicare” in plan titles or advertisements, and imposes significant fines for any insurer that engages in this deceptive practice.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mark Pocan (WI-02), Chair of the HIV/AIDS Caucus, introduced the PrEP Access Act, a bill that would allow Medicare beneficiaries to receive screening of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) services at their pharmacy. Currently, the only way to access PrEP and PEP is through a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. Taking PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sexual exposure by 99 percent.

MADISON, WI – Today, U.S. Representative Mark Pocan (WI-02) sent letters to UW Health and Children’s Wisconsin expressing his sincere disappointment that both systems decided to stop providing gender affirming care to patients under the age of 18, despite the fact that there is currently no legal requirement to do so. Refusing to provide this care while it remains legal shows they are choosing to operate more as political organizations than as healthcare institutions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Madeleine Dean (PA-04) led a letter with 47 of their colleagues to President Trump expressing serious concerns regarding Israeli actions in Gaza that threaten the ceasefire framework, including continued bombardment against civilians, destruction of property, and insufficient delivery of humanitarian aid. The latest reporting indicates that Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement more than 700 times since it was signed less than three months ago.

The bill’s topline does not reflect the additional $150 billion added to the Pentagon’s budget through the Big Ugly Law this past July, pushing total military spending over $1 trillion for the first time. Rep. Pocan continues his streak of never having voted in favor of an NDAA since being elected to Congress in 2012.
