Pocan Votes to Affirm Two-State Solution for Palestine and Israel, Opposition to Settlement Expansion
U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02), today released the following statement after the passage of H.Res.326, Affirming Support for a Two-State Solution and opposition to settlement expansion in the West Bank.
“Today’s vote is a clear and necessary message to Palestinians and Israelis that Congress supports a two-state solution for peace in the region—including opposing the illegal expansion of settlements in the West Bank. Also, this is the first time we have necessarily expressed that a viable two-state solution must include explicit support for humanitarian aid for Palestinians. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent pledge to annex the West Bank eliminates any possibility of a future Palestinian state and the reality of long-lasting peace in the region. Moving forward, if Israel continues with this expansion, Congressional assistance could change.”
