Pocan Calls on Wisconsin Delegation to Keep Politics Out of Tomah VA Investigation

February 26, 2015

Rep. Duffy’s partisan comments on Fox News do not help Wisconsin veterans

Washington, D.C. U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) today called on the Wisconsin congressional delegation to refrain from politicizing the field hearing on the Tomah VA Medical Center after Rep. Sean Duffy's appearance on Fox News.

"Our veterans deserve an objective and thorough investigation into the prescription practices at Tomah VA. While we are all extremely troubled about the tragic situation at the Tomah facility, it is not helpful to turn this tragedy into a partisan, political witch hunt. I believe Rep. Duffy's comments on Fox News have, unfortunately, raised concerns about his lack of objectivity in this matter. Politicizing Tomah will only damage the integrity of the investigation and make it harder to get to the bottom of the issue.

"It needs to be made perfectly clear – this is an investigation into practices at Tomah VA. The focus should remain on fixing the problems at the VA Medical Center in Tomah and ensuring our veterans receive the care they deserve, not scoring cheap political points. I look forward to attending the House Veterans Affairs Committee field hearing and working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get the objective facts in the ongoing investigation so we can address the problems at Tomah VA for Wisconsin veterans."
